Rusty Parker and Danny McGuire are in love with each other. She is one of eight chorus girls in the revue that perform along with him in his Brooklyn nightclub, and despite their relationship, he is just as hard on her if not more so than any of the other performers in believing in their talent. Rusty, however, wants whatever help she can get to reach fame as a performer. Against Danny's wishes in he believing it not the type of publicity that would advance her career as a performer and despite she acting on some purposefully given bad advice from her fellow chorus girl Maurine in wanting the position for herself, Rusty is chosen in an exhaustive search as the cover girl for a special edition of Vanity Magazine. Rusty was chosen largely because she reminded its publisher John Coudair of the woman in his life who got away, performer Maribelle Hicks, who he is unaware of at the time is Rusty's recently deceased grandmother. Rusty's cover photo does not only generate massive publicity for her, but for the club in seemingly everyone wanting to get to know as much about her as they can. Assisted by John who wants to do for Rusty's career what he ended up not being able to do for Maribelle's, impresario Noel Wheaton, who falls in love with her himself, wants to skyrocket Rusty to Broadway stardom. In the process, Danny wants to let Rusty decide for herself what she wants to do with her life and career in light of the attention from the magazine cover, he just hoping that their love for each other will carry them through.—Huggo
