Hank Martin, an American mechanic, is knocked out when a lightning bolt causes his horse to fall. He wakes up in the land of King Arthur with Sir Sagramore's lance pointed at his chest. Sagramore takes him to Camelot where he is sentenced to die for being a dragon in disguise. Readied for burning at the stake, he uses the crystal from his watch to start the death warrant on fire. Freed, he claims to be a wizard, awing King Arthur and his court with the lighting of a match. Arthur rewards him with a blacksmith shop, makes Sir Sagramore his squire and knights him. Hank introduces jazz, safety pins, and firearms as he romances the graceful and beautiful Alisande la Carteloise, the king's favorite niece. He also befriends Sir Sagramore. Hank's actions incur the hatred of Merlin and Morgan le Fay. Sir Lancelot returns from a quest to confront Hank regarding Alisandre. During a joust, Hank humiliates him but loses Alisandre due to perceived dishonor. A young girl, having heard Hank is a great wizard, implores him to save her ill father. The man dies, but he learns from the girl's mother about injustices of medieval laws. Hank persuades King Arthur to tour his kingdom in disguise to see the true, wretched condition of his subjects. Merlin and Morgan plot to usurp his throne. They capture the disguised Hank, Sir Sagamore and King Arthur to sell as slaves. Alisande attempts to help them but is herself captured. In captivity she admits her love for Hank. Hank's almanac alerts him to an upcoming eclipse that he employs to free them.—Garon Smith
